Barrier Models


Arup Cellbond Barrier Models

Working in collaboration, Arup and Cellbond have developed a range of LS-DYNA finite element models based on the aluminium honeycomb barriers produced by Cellbond.

This range of models covers all the major barriers used in the European and US Federal regulations and the main consumer test such as Euro NCAP and IIHS.

The models have been developed to take advantage of the latest developments in the LS-DYNA code and are designed to provide a robust and efficient analysis model.

Development Work
These models have been developed and validated using test data obtained from:
  • Static tests on the basic honeycomb material
  • Dynamic tests on the basic honeycomb material
  • Adhesive strength testing
  • A range of full barrier crash tests
  • Data from existing car crash tests

This validation work has been carried out in both the MPP and SMP version of LS-DYNA 970 and 971 across a wide range of hardware platforms to ensure performance and accuracy.
