THUMS Model

THUMS Model

The Total Human Model for Safety ("THUMS") is a finite element model human body model intended for injury analysis. The model was jointly developed by Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Central R&D Labs., Inc.

The model aims to simulate "human body kinematics" and "injury on human body" in response to a large impact in a car crash. The geometries of the structurally complex human body parts including the head, torso, joints and organs are represented by FE meshes. Material properties have been attained from published literature which has been validiated by component testing.
