Role information
We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as an interaction designer. In this role you’ll be exposed to a wide range of activities and technologies in a thriving and highly technical environment. You will discover how engineers work in different disciplines and cultures and what they need software to achieve.
You will develop designs that showcase our products and communicate complex technical detail clearly. You will need to be comfortable iterating your designs to conform to software requirements and capabilities while being an advocate for the user and their understanding of the product. You will be able to guide your own work and will be supported in your role where needed by subject matter experts, business analysts, marketing and user experience specialists.
This role will work closely with others in the Digital Development team, with the wider Digital Technology Group and with colleagues in business groups and engineering teams. It reports to the senior designer who is currently based in the UK.

General Responsibilities
- Work closely with engineers, marketing leads and product managers to understand the product and communicate it to clients and customers
- Work with user researchers to carry out user interviews and describe user workflows
- Produce high-fidelity mock-ups of user interface designs and iterate them based on user research (personas, user journeys etc.)
- Ensure the products are designed in accordance with the appropriate standards, ensuring that key elements are built in from the outset
- Contribute to developing style and brand guidelines, design principles, frameworks, and best practice approaches to UI design
- Work with front-end developers on CSS
- Disseminate expertise of how design decisions impact the usability of the system and the interaction with the wider reform program
- Actively participate in team meetings, group meetings and user forums on a regular basis and to play an active role in Arup’s skills networks and digital transformation initiatives.
- Contribute to developing design principles, frameworks, and best practice approaches to UI designs
