CADtools
CADtools is the suite of CAD software as used by Arup staff. This includes parts that are currently sold separately, such as CADrebar and the single user version of CADplot - CADplot Lite.

Features
CADtools provides three main categories of features:
- AutoCAD productivity tools that are generally useful to all users
- Discipline specific tools for Architects, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical, Acoustics and Public Health engineers.
- Drawing management tools
CADtools also has a host of tools that aid drawing production. These include:
- Columbus Integration - extracts document information for document management.
- Universal Symbols - non discipline specific dynamic symbology
- Symbol Libraries - with dynamic autoscaling insertion control. Disciplines include Architectural, Structural, HVAC and Civil engineering
Other tools in the CADtools suite include:
- CADplot Lite, the single user version of CADplot - provides AutoCAD plotting and Acrobat PDF file creation.
- CADrebar - Concrete detailing and scheduling to BS8666 and BS4466
The following is a selection of the tools and utilities provided by CADtools:
Clips - greatly simplifies the use of Paperspace viewports. Viewports are automatically inserted and scaled enabling fast and accurate layout of plotable content.

Layer Management System (LMS) - Conforming to B.S.1192 and fully customisable to meet project specific requirements, LMS provides powerful tools for the creation and manipulation of layers including Xref layers. Using LMS it is simple to display just what you need. For instance "Display just the sub-structure annotation"

Autotext - produces correctly scaled text. Rather than doing the mental arithmetic to size your text and then change the colour to control the pen weight, let Autotext do it for you.

Text - Features tools to aid the creation and manipulation of annotation e.g. Underline, Chop, Change style, Change case, Change height etc.
|
Dimension Control - Provides consistent appearance of tick and arrow dimensions at all scales.
|
|
Layer Control - Features both the quick layer control tools and the comprehensive Layer Management System.
|
Utilities - These are general productivity tools and include Block Name Trim, Rename, Import/Export, CADplot etc.
|
Linetype Settings - Manipulates AutoCAD's built-in linetypes and the object linetype scale to provide 3 linetype sizes: Small, Medium and Large.

Universal Symbols - provides symbols and annotation applicable to all disciplines.
|
Arrows - Autoscaled and dynamically sized arrows.
|
3D - Set-up accurate perspective views by simply placing 'observers' and then viewing from those locations. Cap off 3D models with PolyToFace.

Import/Export - includes: GSA Export, Polyline Import, Text Import, Table Import.
|
|
Edit - General editing tools such as: Copy Rotate Scale, Move & Rotate, Change Colour, Change Linetype, Change All, All Set, Clone, Model to Paper, Paper to Model, Object Align, Same XYZ, Text AutoEdit, Purge Light, Purge Heavy, Flip Selection.

Drawing Management - Tools to insert drawing title blocks, manage Paperspace with Clips, control the scale and units, and display/change system settings.
|
Structural - includes routines to draw steelwork sections, piles, doors, stairs, walls and waffled slabs.
|
|
Electrical - Draws distribution boards, circuits and trays. Also includes many electrical symbols.
|
Architectural - CADtools comes with numerous architectural symbols.
|
Ductwork - Includes many ductwork drawing routines.
|
|
Pipework - Various pipework functions are included.
|
|
Civil - Provides a number of civil engineering symbols.
|
|
Special Tools - In addition, there are a number of special tools included such as a stadium profiler, wind analysis tool, sound ray bouncer and a Navisworks clash detection tool.
