GSA Version Checking

To help users ensure that they are running the latest software, GSA 8.1 implements a new version checking system that rapidly delivers bug fixes and minor enhancements to the users. This compares each GSA 8.1 executable file installed locally with the set that Oasys identifies as being the 'current versions'. Version Checking transmits no data to Oasys because it compares the files locally, highlighting any updates that are available for download from the Oasys website. These updates come as "patches" or as a complete installation. The online Change Log records all changes, so you always know what they are.

All future releases of Oasys engineering programs will employ this version checking system.

AdSec 7.4

AdSec 7.4 has been released. Details of enhancements and bug fixes are listed in the release notes.

Principal enhancements are as follows:

Design Codes:

• AdSec 7.4 offers an increased number of design codes. The supported codes are:
  • BS8110:1985
  • BS8110:1997
  • Hong Kong Code of Practice 1987
  • Hong Kong Code of Practice 2004
  • EN 1992-1-1:2004 Eurocode 2
  • BS5400
  • HK Structures Design Manual - 2002

Analysis:

• Introduction of a fully linear (tension and compression) model
• Better N/M charts
• Introduction of a Eurocode 2 confined concrete model for ULS analysis

Interface:

• Improved interface for the definition of user concrete properties
• Revised output wizard offering greater control over output
• Line contours of stress or strain for simple (non-compound) sections
• Produce complex section shapes by assembling sections into a compound section and merging the components

Miscellaneous:

• Option to read and write model data in text file format
• Extract strain planes from the results in all views

Oasys User Group Forum Generates Positive Feedback

Oasys hosted their first user group forum in London on Monday 4 July. The event was well attended with both external clients and Arup delegates. The morning session concentrated on geotechnical topics with presentations from Brian Simpson on Eurocode 7, Eleanor Patterson on GsRaft and Hoe Yeow on Numerical Modelling. The afternoon session focused on structural topics with presentations from Albert Bong on the Terminal 5 project, Kristina Shea on Computational Design + Optimisation and Matthew Birchall on Fabric Structures. Each session ended with lively table discussions where the delegates were asked to discuss a set of questions relating to the presentations and their future software requirements. The feedback was both positive and useful. It was particularly gratifying that customers openly voiced their appreciation of the products and support they receive from Oasys.
