Architects choose Mail Manager (December 2007)

Mail Manager

Mail Manager 4.2 was released recently which has further improvements on the suggested filing locations by making them even more targeted and therefore shorter which speeds up the process of filing emails. This release primarily addresses a range of bug fixes.

Mail Manager speed improvements

We currently beta testing 4.3 of Mail Manager which focuses on speed improvements. We have addressed two areas, working over slow connections and search which in most cases delivers results in less than a second for even the largest repositories.

Tips & Tricks - Right click functionality

Mail Manager now has a couple of neat features which it incorporates into Windows Explorer. When you are navigating around your folders you can right click and:

1. Send Mail Manager Link which sends a location link to the file/folder to email recipients
2. Add Mail Manager Filing Location - adds the folder extension to your folder locations in Mail Manager

Within Mail Manager you also have the following right click options:

Explore - Opens the location folder with a Windows Explorer dialog (only available with file system folders)
New - Adds new location similar to using "Add New Location" button
Copy - Copies the details of an existing location which can be modified to suit
Edit - Allows you to modify the details of an existing location
Delete - Will permanently remove the location and its details from the list

GSA

We are simplifying the GSA suite and in doing so, retiring the current product range. The first table below shows the current product range, and the second table shows new products and how they compare.

GSA in Russia

GSA now has a Russian Compliance Certificate, which confirms that GSA meets the requirements for general engineering calculations to applicable Russian codes. Developments are planned to further support our Russian users in the near future.

Corus Advance Sections

Did you know that GSA, Compos and AdSec all include the Corus Advance sections? To use them just change the catalogue in the section wizard and access both the existing and new section sizes. You can also set the catalogue as your default in GSA and Compos in your Preferences.

Geotechnical

Tunset

Tunset is not just for tunnelling induced settlement, but also calculates settlements from excavations and mining. The latest version also predicts the likely damage to nearby buildings in accordance with the latest CIRIA guides.

We are working on incorporating 3D graphics and hope to tell you more about this in the next newsletter.

Vdisp

Following hot on the heels of the latest release, we are currently adding horizontal load displacements into Vdisp, more about this very soon...

Seismic

Version 8.2 of Siren & Sigraph have both been released recently. The new features are detailed below:

Siren 8.2 New Features:

• Capability to handle multiple time histories
• Time histories can be treated as X and Y pairs
• Analysis of selected or all time histories
• Improved control of export to LS-DYNA allowing choice of results to export and control of the load curve ids
• Auto termination of analysis cased on the duration of the time history

Sigraph 8.2 New Features:

• New graphing tools available to provide more control over the graph display and to allow values to be extracted from graphs.
• Revision and rationalisation of file open and import options and file save and export file options.
