Well the Christmas break has been and gone, leaving us in the depths of winter, knee deep in snow. Or not as it turns out. Here in the UK we seem to have passed over winter and gone straight to spring, with the flowers and buds already making a start. Perhaps the snow has been kept away by all the hot new releases...
This February sees the release of two major updates to the structural suite: GSA and AdSec
The most exciting new feature has to be the footfall analysis. While there have been a number of guides available for a while, they only enable the approximation of footfall response based on simplistic standard arrangements. GSA is unique in that it enables you to accurately calculate the footfall response on a structure of any material and any layout.
GSA Footfall will analyse your structure to the Arup method, as adopted by the Concrete Centre, the Steel Construction Institute specification, and more. Not only that, but because it identifies the floor areas that have high and low responses, you can assist your clients in the positioning of sensitive equipment and services.
GSA now boasts a link to Autodesk's Revit. While some others only allow one-way traffic, GSA works both ways, creating GSA models straight from Revit, and creating Revit models from a GSA model.
With the new sparse solver selected in GSA, analyses run significantly faster. For large models run times can be cut by a factor of ten or more.
GSA now also has parametric meshing for slabs and walls, enabling swift updates to floor models in response to layout and grid changes.
That's right: you can use GSA 8.2 for free. New releases of GSA will continue to provide a 30-day trial. However, rather than expiring after the 30 days, the software will continue to work but with a limited capacity. You are only limited by linear static analysis, 50 nodes or elements, and your imagination.
These are only the highlights of the new features in GSA 8.2; see the full list at http://www.oasys-software.com/gsa. Download GSA now and see for yourself what it can do for you.
In response to demands from our users in Australia, USA and India, AdSec 8.0 now has AS 3600, ACI 318, ACI 318M and IS456-2000 design codes in addition to the existing UK, European and Hong Kong building and bridge codes.
To make non-linear analysis data easier to manage, AdSec now incorporates user material curves directly into the program, whether concrete or reinforcement. AdSec 8.0 also now includes reinforcement templates for I, taper, channel, angle, elliptical and recto-circular sections.
AdSec has, for a while now, been the section analysis tool for the discerning engineer who needs that extra level of sophistication. Whether designing piles, bridge beams, mega columns or adding carbon fibre reinforcement to existing structures, AdSec can handle your complex problems.
Since the launch of Mail Manager 4 back in October last year, the reaction from customers has been overwhelming. We have not rested on our laurels and the team are working hard on the next version, with the focus on offline filing and integration with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. In fact, the beta version is due out in just a few weeks and we hope to provide you with more details of this important release in the next newsletter.
If you have not yet seen how Mail Manager can transform email chaos into order, just download a copy and try it for free for a month. You will not regret it.
Oasys has a new joint venture in the UK with NBS, part of RIBA Enterprises and producers of the National Building Specification. The joint venture has developed a new product, NBS Perspective.
Based on Oasys document management system, Columbus - to which more than 48,000 organisations are now subscribed - NBS Perspective is an innovative new product that allows you to organise and view your office and project data in a more structured and efficient way. A broad and growing range of templates for standard office letters and forms will reduce time spent searching for the appropriate documentation.
Oasys are looking for commission-only agents to assist with the growing demand for Mail Manager in America. Oasys provide training, sales materials, technical assistance and high percentage un-capped commissions. For details, please contact amanda.bloomfield@arup.com
We're gearing up for a big new release of all the geotechnical programs. Highlights of this include:
We will be telling you more about this in the next newsletter.
Technology has made the process of buying products over the internet easier, so it is no surprise that more customers are choosing to use our shopping cart to both purchase software and pay for maintenance. In preparation for more widespread uptake of digital payment and in order to improve our processes, we shall soon be directing all orders via our web site. Customers will still be able to pay by cheque or BACS but the details of an order will be entered on the web site. This will reduce errors and allow customers to track the history of orders with us.
We plan to introduce the change at the end of February and will be writing to business contacts with more details.
We are pleased to report that we have not encountered any significant problems with our products when running under Vista. Testing continues so we would recommend that you monitor our web site or give us a call if you are planning to move to Vista.
If you want to know more about anything mentioned here, give us a call.
