LS-DYNA Applications
CrashworthinessLS-Dyna is used extensively in the area of vehicle crashworthiness analysis. The ability of LS-Dyna to model contacts and the wide range of material models available allows occupants and barriers to be modelled with ease.
Metal FormingLS-Dyna has been used for sheet metal stamping simulation since the late 1980s and can be used to assess a proposed forming process and tool design.
NuclearArup pioneered the application of non-linear dynamic finite element technique to the analysis of impact events in the early 1980s. Since then we have been at the forefront of the development and application of this technique.
Occupant ProtectionProviding crash protection for the occupants is an integral part of vehicle development. Increasingly sophisticated legislative crash tests demand that detailed modelling be undertaken at an early stage in the design to avoid costly late changes. Arup offers a comprehensive range of modelling skills to optimise occupant protection.
SeismicArup have completed the structural design for the Osaka International Conference Centre. As the building exceeds 60m in height it was subject to a special approval procedure from the Tall Buildings Committee of the Ministry of Construction, requiring non-linear seismic analysis.
TyresIt is now possible to predict handling and ride characteristics of tyres by computer simulation using LS-Dyna. These techniques can be used by tyre manufacturers to reduce the time and cost to market for new tyre products, by short-circuiting the traditional prototype-and-test development cycle.
Virtual Prototype AnalysisVehicles and other manufactured products have to be durable. They are commonly subjected to tests involving repeated loads and one-off extreme loads to assess their durability performance. Many advantages can be obtained by simulating the tests as they are done in practice, including all the dynamic and nonlinear effects, in a single simulation. LS-Dyna is ideally suited to simulate many of these tests. |
