Compos 8.3 Build 4: Fixes
-
Compos is ignoring the neutral axis position when identifying the Tee section class at the notches. This results in
conservative section classification and underestimating the Vierendeel moment capacity.
[NCR6747] (Fixed on 02 February 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Floor frequency is underestimated if two or more composite beams are used.
[NCR6797] (Fixed on 15 February 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Compos is not giving error when the design fails to find suitable stud arrangement.
[NCR6836] (Fixed on 27 February 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Compos crashes sometimes when saving in ASCII format on 64-bit machines.
[NCR6837] (Fixed on 27 February 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
In EN1994-1-1:2004 design Compos is incorrectly setting the load height to 1.0m when
checking for lateral torsional buckling in construction stage.
[NCR6838] (Fixed on 27 February 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Text report is showing the point restraints even when the span is laterally restrained.
[NCR6869] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Compos is resetting the user defined load factors to default values whenever the safety factors page is activated.
[NCR6870] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
If the web post width is less than 0.4*h0, Compos gives a warning message that the web post width is less than 0.3*h0 instead of 0.4*h0.
[NCR6871] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Compos is incorrectly calculating the forces in the web post.
[NCR6963] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
Compos is incorrectly using longitudinal mesh reinforcement for transverse shear capacity.
[NCR6964] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
In Graphic Views mesh bars are always drawn longitudinally even when the direction of the mesh has been swapped.
[NCR6965] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
The default stress unit is incorrectly defined in the registry preferences.
A workaround for older versions is to open the preferences and change the unit.
[NCR6966] (Fixed on 26 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4) -
The graphics displayed in the 'Summary (with graphic)' output is sometimes not clear.
[NCR6982] (Fixed on 27 March 2012) (Released in Compos.exe 8.3.0.4)

Compos 8.3 Build 3: Fixes
-
Copying and pasting on data tables, e.g. on load table and beam section table of the member wizard, does not work properly.
Avoiding using copy and paste is recommended on using Compos 8.2 build 3.
[NCR5479] (Fixed on 30 November 2010) -
The minumum shear interaction is sometimes over estimated, i.e. 40% minimum shear interaction is wrongly calculated as 50%.
Because of this, warning message is wrongly given.
[NCR6257] (Fixed on 3 August 2011) -
For Class 3 and Class 4 sections stud distribution is incorrectly done using the plastic stress distribution.
[NCR6419] (Fixed 10 Sept 2011) -
Section properties at the centre of web opening are incorrect. This leads to non-conservative results.
[NCR6420] (Fixed 10 Sept 2011) -
Compos is calculating the transverse bar cover incorrectly. The cover of transverse reinforcement given
by the program is 5 mm smaller than the actual value
[NCR6421] (Fixed 10 Sept 2011) -
Plastic section modulus and elastic section modulus calculations are incorrect for unsymmetrical I sections.
[NCR6422] (Fixed 10 Sept 2011)

Compos 8.1 Build 1: Fixes
-
The dimensions of metal deckings SMD TR60 and TR80 are slightly wrong, e.g. the
correct dimensions for TR60 are 144 mm and 133 mm, but 140 mm and 140 mm were
used, the correct dimensions for TR80 are 114 and 104 mm, but 140
mm and 120 mm were used.
[NCR3480] (Fixed 6 April 2009) (fixed in metal decking database) -
The thickness of metal decking ComFlor 80 (0.9) is wrongly used for metal decking ComFlor 80 (1.0) and vice versa.
[NCR 4373] (Fixed 16 December 2009) -
Some of the Corus metal deckings [ComFlor 70 and ComFlor 80 (1.0] used in Compos are out of date.
[NCR 4385] (Fixed 18 December 2009)

Compos 8.0 Build 3: Fixes
-
Construction stage constraints from secondary members are ignored even though the check box has been checked to indicate they
should be considered.
[NCR1419] (Fixed 1 April 2007) (Released on 4 May 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.1) -
The shear force of right end notch is always zero.
[NCR1420] (Fixed 11 April 2007) (Released on 4 May 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.1) -
The cover of transverse reinforcement given by Compos is 10mm less than the correct value if the trasverse reinforcement is chosen to be
designed by the program.
[NCR1421] (Fixed 21 April 2007) (Released on 4 May 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.1) -
The design strength rather than the characteristic strength of reinforcement is used when calculating the transverse shear capacity
of reinforcement using the equation in Clause 5.6.3 of BS5950 Part 3.1. The characteristic strength should be used for this
equation, therefore, the transverse shear capacity of reinforcement is 15% underestimated.
[NCR1422] (Fixed 1 May 2007) (Released on 4 May 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.1) -
The default decking material grade cannot be changed, so the first grade of the two available decking grades is always used.
[NCR1484] (Fixed 15 May 2007) (Released on 15 May 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.2) -
When web opeonings are subjected to very high shear, the Vierendeel moments are underestimated
[NCR2036] (Fixed 14 September 2007) (Released on 21 September 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.3) -
The lambda for lateral torsional buckling analysis of steel beam is wrong for construction stage check
[NCR2602] (Fixed 17 March 2008) (Released on 17 March 2008 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.6) -
The position of the first steel section is sometimes wrongly altered after going through the section wizard.
[NCR 2981] (Fixed 31 July 2008) (Released on 12 August 2008 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.7) -
The axial load is presented on the load table, but it is not used in Compos analysis.
[NCR 2986] (Fixed 1 August 2008) (Released on 12 August 2008 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.7) -
When decking is perpendicular to steel beam, the longitudinal stud edge
distance is not checked properly, a physical fitness need to be checked, so
Compos will not put too many studs in logitudinal direction that can be fit.
[NCR3020] (Fixed 19 August 2008) (Released on 21 October 2008 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.10) -
Even though the steel beam top flange width is larger than 133 mm, the warning
message of top flange width less than 133 mm is always given.
[NCR3028] (Fixed 21 August 2008) (Released on 21 October 2008 in Compos.exe 8.0.12.10)

Compos 8.0 Build 2: Fixes
-
If a member has been used as a member load and its name has been changed, the member load table is
not updated accordingly, so the member load has been ignored in the analysis.
[NCR12] (Fixed 31 October 2006) (Patch released 28 November 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.10.0) -
If a composite beam has a solid slab and the transverse shear capacity is controlled by shear surface b-b,
the transverse shear capacity has been underestimated if the member is re-analysed.
[NCR14] (Fixed 11 November 2006) (Patch released 28 November 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.10.0) -
If the slab width is variable, the checking of slab transverse shear capacity may be missed out for the second as well as the
following slab sections defined in the concrete slab table.
[NCR15] (Fixed 28 November 2006) (Patch released 28 November 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.10.0) -
The restraints from secondary beam is always ignored even "Take secondary beam as intermediate restraint" box is checked
on "Restraints in Construction Stage" page of the member property wizard.
[NCR16] (Fixed 11 January 2007) (Patch released 11 January 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.11.0) -
The shear force for the notch at right hand side of the beam is sometimes wrongly taken as zero if the meber has
uniform steel beam section, but it has been defined at both left and right hand sides of the member.
[NCR17] (Fixed 11 January 2007) (Patch released 11 January 2007 in Compos.exe 8.0.11.0)

3D graphic view
3D graphic view shows the image of the composite beam in 3D space. The composite beam can be rotated, panned, enlarged or reduced. Each of the components of the composite beam can be switch on and off individually on the graphic view to enable each of component to be examined individually.
Better 2D graphic view
2D views for elevation, cross section, web opening and loading. Detailed dimensions are given on the graphic view. They can be printed individually or embedded on the results summary output
Graphic view of applied loads
Applied loads can be viewed on 2D graphic - load diagram. Schematic view of the loads are also available on 3D graphic.
Area loads
Uniformly distributed area load. The area subjected to this load is the available width (may be variable) along the full length of the concrete
Member loads
The organisation of analysis case and analysis task definition data has been rationalised and access to this data has been improved. This is to enable the editing of the full content of analysis definition data. In achieving this Member loads have been given greater prominence than in previous versions of GSA.
Design option to use minimum number of shear studs
Option for using minimum number of shear studs that also satisfies load capacity as well as other code requirements.
Design to selected section types
In design, Compos will find the steel beam section to meet the minimum weight or minimum depth criterion that also satisfies the load capacity requirement. In previois version, only UB sections are used in the design, now the section types to be used in design can be defined
No stud zones
No stud zones on each or both ends of the composite beam can be specified. This is useul when damping layer is required between concrete slab and steel beam to reduce the response of the composite floor.
Variable concrete slab section
Both the width and depth of the concrete slab can be changed or tapered along the span.
Metal decking angle
There is no limitation on the direction of metal decking. It can be parallel or perpendicular to the beam or in any angle with the beam.
Member property to other members
The member properties in the current page of the Member Property wizard can be applied to other members. This is usefull for making certain properties the same for a group of members.
Program produced shear stud layout
If automatic stud spacing is selected, Compos will give the actual layout of the shear studs.
Text data file
Tab separated and comma separated (CSV) text data (ASCII) files are supported by Compos 8.0.
User defined units
User defined units can be used for input and output.
More metal decking types
Metal deckings from catalogues of Richard Lees, Kingspan, SMD and Corus PMF are supported by Compos 8.0.
COM user interface
COM (Component Object Module) user interface enables users to run Compos through the exported functions of Compos in their program, e.g. C++ program or VBA etc. This will enable Compos to be run non-interactively or in a batch operation.
Foot-fall induced floor vibration
Foot-fall induced floor response analysis is a serviceability limit state analysis to evaluate the response of the composite floor subjects to human walking actions.
Version Checking
So as to help users ensure that they are running the latest software a new version checking system has been implemented. This compares each Compos executable file installed locally with the set that Oasys identifies as being the ‘current versions’. (The comparison is carried out locally; no data is transmitted to Oasys.) Executables for which updates are available are highlighted. Updates may then be downloaded from the Compos Downloads page.

Compos 8.0 Build 1: Fixes
-
The background colour of the saved JPEG file is always black.
[NCR3] (Fixed 28 October 2005) (Patch released 28 October 2005 in Compos.exe 8.0.1.2) -
When opening a file with user defined construction stage restraints, the
intermediate restraints have been deleted.<
[NCR4] (Fixed 28 October 2005) (Patch released 28 October 2005 in Compos.exe 8.0.1.2) -
When copying member, the steel beam section is not copied, so the two members
will use the same steel beam section.
[NCR5] (Fixed 3 November 2005) (Patch released 3 November 2005 in Compos.exe 8.0.1.4) -
When slab transverse shear capacity is controlled by b-b type failure, the
reinforcement transverse shear capacity is wrong even though the reinforcement
area is correct.
[NCR6] (Fixed 19 December 2005) (Patch released 21 December 2005 in Compos.exe 8.0.1.5) -
If the member property wizard is open while creating a new member, Compos crashes after
the new member has been added to the data manager.
[NCR9] (Fixed 17 January 2006) (Patch released 18 January 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.2.0) -
If the last defined slab section is not at the end of the composite beam, the calculated effective
slab widths are wrong adjacent to the location of the last defined slab section.
[NCR10] (Fixed 17 February 2006) (Patch released 20 February 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.5.0) -
If the final dead loads are smaller than the construction stage dead loads, the calculated deflections
are wrong.
[NCR11] (Fixed 28 February 2006) (Patch released 28 February 2006 in Compos.exe 8.0.8.0)

Compos Outstanding Bugs/problems
-
When printing summary results with graphics, sometimes one or two graphics are missing in the print output.
This may have something to do with the printer driver and the problem is not consistent and the real couse has not been found.
[NCR13] Reported on 30 May 2006 -
When opening a Compos file on oriental operating system, Compos sometimes crashes due to the temperature unit stored
in the registry is a oriental character which is not recognised by Compos and causes the crashes. Editing the
registry to remove this character can help to prevent the crashes
[NCR1283] Reported on 16 March 2007
